Diary, letters, and annotated photographs and postcards describe Robertson's voyage from England to Papua, gold prospecting in Papua, experiences in Port Moresby, employment in Sydney as a schoolteacher, and then with the Australian Broadcasting Commission as an announcer and commentator. The majority of the collection focuses on Robertson's experience in Papua. In 1935 Max Robertson travelled from England to Papua New Guinea as part of a gold prospecting team led by Jack Hides. In 1936 he took a position as a schoolmaster in Sydney, and in 1937 joined the staff of 2CH, then joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney and Brisbane as an announcer and sports commentator. He returned to England in 1939 and joined the BBC, served in the Army from September 1939 to 1946, then rejoined the BBC, specialising in tennis broadcasting. His publicatio...
